Newly married, there was a time when life in the fast lane seemed like fun for the Conner’s. Multiple business interests, four interesting, grown children, and planning for retirement were the only goals of the day. THEN…something happened. Cathy took a drive one day to the outskirts of Oklahoma City and ran upon a wonderfully unique, notorious old horse ranch on 170 acres. It was built by the Quarter horse stud Top Moon for all of his mares to breed, live and foal on. The 7 1/2 miles of white fence, the 50 stall stable and the mile and half race track all added to the charm of the place. Sure, the grass was as tall as a 10 foot ceiling when driving through the pastures. And yes, the fences needed barrels of white paint. Okay, the roads had not been graded in 20 years, but she and Steve saw a unique country appeal that was not to be denied for them and their family.

SaddleRiver was born out of the hard work and vision from that day forward. Today, that same horse ranch holds only three aging chestnuts ...and a World Class herd of Registered Black Angus cattle. The 170 acres has been expanded to 1500 acres and a Bristow location. Rick Christian brought his family to the ranch in 2007 along with 30years of feed management expertise. With much needed advise from many of the leaders in the Angus industry, Limestone LLC leading the charge, SaddleRiver has grown and changed. Today it is common to find the ranch stakeholders at many of the prominent cattle sales nationwide, as well as attending as many local sales as they can fit into their schedules.

The Conner’s multiple business interests, including coal bed methane gas wells in Alabama, a premiere well automation company in Colorado, a financial advisory firm in Oklahoma City and several medical interests there also, the love of the Angus and the people in the industry dominates.. It’s deep in their blood and the desire to add genetic quality to the industry is strong. The kids accuse the couple of loving the cattle more than them. The dirty boots, jeans and hats became the fashion statement of the day and the extra money that had been plentiful started turning into cattle in the pasture. The life as ranchers took over completely.
That was seven short years ago and today the angus in the field barely resemble the first cattle that hit the ranch. The pedigrees have taken on an old world, feed efficient look. The breeding is done on a more scientific scale and the lessons and experience are showing in all of the new calves hitting the ground. The cows look like the old English Dowdies that Cathy collects paintings of, deep ribbed and beautifully uttered. The cattle are still black though and the S brand with the river running through it that they now sport proudly, signifies the old winding continuous path of genetic perfection…from start to finished product.

SaddleRiver…Deep Running Genetics. There is no better place in this old world. Come and visit. We love showing off our cattle.
